Taylor Swift pays musical tribute to Justin Bieber

Taylor Swift’s Speak Now tour has run through Montreal and Toronto so far, and over the course of those two sold-out double-header stops, Swift hasn’t been shy about big-upping all things Canadian.

She's Tweeted how much she hearts MuchMusic's Video on Trial, expressed her appreciation for Canada's two best Ryans while in concert ("Gosling and Reynolds, thank you for that") – and she's even gushed over how pretty-pretty Canadian billboards are. (Granted, said ads were of her pretty-pretty face, but, being Canadian and starved for attention, we'll still take it as a compliment.)

However, there is no better way to express a feeling than through the medium of song -- even when said feeling is mild appreciation for Canadian pop culture she may or may not have double-checked on Wikipedia pre-show.

And on that count, Swift does not disappoint. During her Friday night show at Toronto's Air Canada Centre, Swift led the audience through a singalong of three of her favourite Canadian pop songs -- tunes that proved very familiar to the 15,000 in attendance. (Thank you, CanCon requirements!)

First up: "You Learn," by Alanis Morissette -- an inspired choice if only because it made Swift the first pop star to not cover that other Jagged Little Pill hit, "You Oughta Know."

And that wasn’t the only '90s Top 40 curveball in the mix. Before leading into her own mega-hit, “You Belong With Me,” Swift introduced a tune she described as her "favourite '90s song ever" -- Tal Bachman's "She's So High."

And perhaps because neither Alanis nor Tal ever prompted a teeny bopper to ovulate with a mere flick of their bangs, only one song from Swift's Canadian medley has generated much heat the day after: Justin Bieber's "Baby."

Biebz was not, unfortunately, summoned to the ACC stage by the siren call of his massive hit. (Hey, it worked for these guys...)

But he did hear tell of Swift’s cover, and Tweeted his response.

"Heard you sang BABY at your concert in TO. thank u for the love... might have to come by and stop in on a show."

Swift’s Speak Now tour reaches two more Canadian stops in the coming weeks: Edmonton August 18 and 19 and Vancouver Sept. 10 and 11. (Someone pass that info along to Bieber, please -- Alanis and Tal, too, if you know where they’ve been hiding.)
