When she was about 10 years old, Taylor Swift was writing her own songs and performing at the Jersey Shore. Her family had a house on the bay at Stone Harbor.
It’s safe to say Swift has come a long way. More than a few years later, Swift has returned to New Jersey, only a little further north at the Prudential Center. MTV reportsthat her first show of four Tuesday night provided a mini ode to Jersey, as she called it, with Swift’s cover of Bon Jovi's "Livin' On a Prayer" leading into "You Belong With Me."
The two-hour performance had aerialists, a Broadway stage set and stop-motion animation. Swift played guitar, banjo and piano during the show.
Back at the Jersey shore, the younger Swift was entering karaoke contests at Henny’s and singing against people more than twice her age.
Swift toldSouthJersey.com, “I loved running around Stone Harbor with my little brother, walking up and down 96th Street exploring. I look back on my childhood in Stone Harbor, I smile and burst out laughing.”
The Village Voice reported there was nearly a problem at the show’s finish. It started when Swift got on the balcony that was in the rafters for encore "Love Story." The balcony moved into the air, and suddenly began to wobble in mid-air. Stagehands quickly got Swift down from the balcony, and she hustled to the stage in time to finish the song.
Swift has booked four shows at the Prudential Center, and will also be appearing with Need to Breathe on July 23 and 24 at 7 p.m.
