The son of the Easter Bunny (voice by Russell Brand) would rather be a drummer in a band than follow in his father’s trade, so he runs away from Easter Island and takes refuge with a human (James Marsden) who is under similar parental pressure to “make something of himself.” Written by Cinco Paul, Ken Daurio and Brian Lynch and directed by Tim Hill, this shiny Easter toy is far cleverer in execution than in concept or construction. The combination of live action and computer animation is seamless and amusing to watch, even as the script moves halfheartedly through its run-of-the-mill comic complications. The movie is harmless kid stuff, as sweet and tasty as a candy marshmallow chick—and about as nourishing. It’s inconsequential, but at least it never sinks to the level of Alvin and the Chipmunks.
