Robert Pattinson "all smiles" at Cosmopolis premiere

Robert Pattinson was "all smiles" at the Cosmopolis premiere after party on Monday (August 13).

The 26-year-old actor - whose girlfriend Kristen Stewart admitted to an affair with Rupert Sanders last month - appeared to have put his recent problems behind him when he arrived at the PH-D Rooftop Lounge at Manhattan's Dream Downtown hotel at around 10 pm, with onlookers describing him as "relaxed and comfortable" at the bash, despite the attention he attracted.

A source told People: "He was very charismatic, all smiles, looking very relaxed and hugging all who stopped by to say hi. The general crowd gravitated towards his table, but he was shielded by security. He was surrounded by women and the movie's cast."

"The whole room was watching him, and he looked genuinely at ease and comfortable the whole time." The evening capped off the first time Robert has appeared in public since the news of Kristen's affair broke, walking the red carpet at the New York movie premiere having earlier taped an episode of The Daily Show.

At the Cosmopolis screening, the Twilight Saga star admitted he felt "absolute terror" about getting close to his fans following his personal problems.

He said: "I felt fear, absolute terror. It's great - I didn't expect it from the first Twilight movie, I never expected my life to be like this and so it's kind of weird to have lasted. And for people to come to movies that I'm really like proud of and I didn't really think anyone's going to see, I mean it's like, it's kind of amazing."

‘Cosmopolis’ gives us a young man riding through Manhattan in a limo on a day that feels more and more like his own self-made apocalypse. He’s a super-rich New Yorker, Eric Packer (Robert Pattinson), a 28-year-old billionaire captain of the money markets and tech industries. He insists on travelling across town for a haircut, even though his driver warns him that a presidential visit and a rap star’s funeral are causing traffic gridlock. Packer’s world is confined to this luxury vehicle. It’s full of screens and gadgets and it’s here that he’s joined first by a 22-year-old whizz kid and then two women, one played by Juliette Binoche, the other by Samantha Morton. Outside, Packer encounters a protester (Mathieu Amalric) who is determined to shove a cream pie in his face, his soon-to-be-ex wife (Sarah Gadon) and a man with a serious vendetta against him (Paul Giamatti).

‘Cosmopolis’ is an odyssey defined by a series of one-on-one encounters. Much of the talk makes no obvious sense: ‘Cosmopolis’ has the air of an experimental theatre piece and trades in heightened, eroticised language. You could say it tries to turn the mind of Packer inside-out: to make the psychological real. That’s tougher on film, surely, than in print, and ‘Cosmopolis’ is at its best when it’s otherworldly and aching with artifice. It’s at its worst when it becomes weighed down by an excessive, wearying wordiness, or when it steps out of the limo – the film’s self-imposed arena of surreality – and into a place more like the real world. ‘Cosmopolis’ threatens to soar and to be important, but it only offers flashes of lucidity; the limo is a mesmerising bubble that is quickly burst when the film leaves it.

That said, there’s a consistent air of charged, end-of-days menace running through the film, which Cronenberg handles with an unbroken sense of precision and confidence. He’s well served, too, by a leering, disintegrating Pattinson, giving a commanding, sympathetic portrait of a man being consumed by his own vanity and power.

Robert Pattinson has slammed film age restrictions as "crazy" and has claimed that violence is more damaging than sex for teens.

The 'Twilight Saga' heartthrob insists that adult movies shouldn't be subject to strict restrictions since most teenagers already have access to pornography on the internet

The 26-year-old actor currently stars as a billionaire embarking upon a violence-ridden 24 hour journey across Manhattan in David Cronenberg's 'Cosmopolis'.

"You're immediately in the highest rating with things to do with sex. But you can have violence. It's like, 'What?!' It's completely crazy," Contactmusic quoted him as telling the Sun.

"I don't think there's anything in 'Cosmopolis' that's particularly... there's nothing bad. I don't think there's anything that would have shocked me when I was 13. Especially when every single kid nowadays probably watches hardcore pornography on the internet. It's no worse - in fact, it's a lot better," he said.

Pattinson has a wild threesome in the film and shoots himself in the hand, but he insists that it's not as violent as people make out.

"I'm not worried about the violence or the sex or anything like that. 'Transformers' is more violent than 'Cosmopolis'," he added.

Could this be the most exciting news we’ve heard, oh, all week? Twilight love birds, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, are rumoured to be working on a movie script together.  

Stew-Patt, as we’re now dubbing them, are famously coy about their relationship and have never FULLY confirmed their couple status. But, come on, who are they kidding? More recently, they’ve been increasingly gushing about one another’s acting abilities.  

Rob has said of Kristen; ‘Even before I knew her I thought she was a really good actress. I still think there are very few girls in her class that are as good as she is.’  

The actor, whose latest role is starring as Eric Parker in David Cronenburg’s dark thriller, Cosmopolis, out on 15 June, even credits his involvement in Twilight to Kristen. ‘The reason I did Twilight in the first place was I saw her in Into the Wild,’ he said.  

KStew speaks just as highly. Having seen Cosmopolis she said; ‘He’s so good in it! I don’t know how [he did it]. I’m very proud.’  

So, what about this film then? ‘We’re trying to write a script together,’ Rob told Belgium magazine Ciné Télé Revue. ‘It won’t be for now but we’ve thought about it for a long time. Kristen is really ambitious. She knows how to find good scripts, she has the nose for that. I admire her.’  

Kristen also said; ‘I’m dying to make another movie with Rob. I think we’re a good team, and whatever it is needs to be so ridiculously ambitious … but I’d love to work with him again.’

Even hunky vampires sometimes struggle with self-confidence.

In a new interview Premiere magazine's special Cannes-themed issue, Robert Pattinson opens up about how filming David Cronenberg's sex-and-violence filled Cosmopolis helped give him the confidence he needed to tackle heavier roles.

"Filming Cosmopolis with David changed something in me," the Twilight star, 25, tells the magazine. "It gave me balls."

Prior to signing on to star in the dark drama--based on the Don DeLillo novel of the same name, about a billionaire who nearly loses everything (including his mind) in the span of one day--Pattinson admits he "spent time doubting myself. As soon as I read a script that I liked, I was working myself up, asking myself if I was good enough."

But now?

"I tell myself: 'F--- it! If they want to hire you, go!'" the actor exclaims.

For his part, Cronenberg says he never doubted Pattinson's leading-man abilities.

He is almost as famous for his big tousled mane of hair as for his acting roles. 

But Robert Pattinson may disappoint fans of his distinctive hairstyle by slicking it down for a new film role.

Decked out in a smart suit, with his famous barnet plastered down into a side parting, the British actor looked a far cry from his role of Twilight vampire Edward Cullen as he filmed Cosmopolis in Toronto earlier today.
