Selena Gomez's Perfume Is A Product Of Her Fans

For her first-ever fragrance, singer/actress Selena Gomez enlisted her fans to help her nail down the kind scent they wanted to spritz on themselves. It was this process that was the highlight of launching the self-titled perfume.

"The best part was the fan interaction," she told MTV News. "I was kind of nervous when the reaction of it would be because no one's ever done that, to where people could go online and help create the fragrance. But I figure they're the people that are going to wear it, so I want to see what's kind of in, I guess, now. So that was the fun part."

Their feedback mostly focused on how they wanted to use the perfume practically in their everyday lives. "They just had really good points of like, 'I can wear this to school' and then another person's like, 'Actually, after the gym, going to like a date [or] something,'" she said of their suggestions. "They came up with the weirdest tactics that made sense and I was like, 'Oh, I didn't even think of it.' They caught a lot of things. It was nice."

After some initial work on her own, Gomez took it to her fans to help her nail down the scent that's now being sold in Macy's department stores. "Well, I created the top five of them and then they helped pick out the bottom three," she said. "It's still very much me. I think it represents what I like. It's refreshing and young, but it's kind of older as well." While the bottle is very feminine (a long, lavender-colored body with lips as a top), she added that the look is also practical. "I wanted the bottle to be tall 'cause I have a lot of fragrances and I always go to the ones that are the tallest and noticeable and pretty and delicate," she explained.

Gomez is the latest in a long list of celebrity perfume designers, joining the ranks of fellow singers like pal Taylor Swift (with Wonderstruck) and boyfriend Justin Bieber (with Someday).

Making a splash! Selena Gomez gets wet and wild for new fragrance photoshoot

She's only 19 but Selena Gomez has already appeared in a hit TV show, released two successful albums and bagged herself a superstar boyfriend to boot.
But now the pretty singer/actress is concentrating on launching her new fragrance.
And she certainly set out to make a splash and make waves when she shot the images for the perfume.
Selena dressed in a strapless black gown as she climbed into a tank full of water for the shoot.
She had her long dark hair wet and slicked back as she made waves in the pink water, which looked even brighter against the blue backdrop.
And Gomez managed to somehow keep her make-up intact as her smoky eyes and shiny lips remained in place.

Taylor Swift Launches 'Wonderstruck' Perfume

Note to dudes: Taylor Swift's fragrance might smell good, but it's not for you.

"This fragrance is really for people of all ages and I've had to talk some of my guy friends out of wearing it," Swift said, laughing. "So it's debatable whether it's, you know, for both (sexes)."

The Grammy-winning country singer launched her own perfume, Wonderstruck, at Macy's in New York on Thursday.

Taylor Swift Named Billboard Woman of the Year

The perfume, priced at $59.50, is one Swift says she is "obsessed" with.

"I wanted it to be a fragrance that I honestly wanted to wear every day," she said. "That's kind of the rule of thumb: Is it good enough? ... Would I want to wear it all the time and give it as presents to my friends? And that ended up happening."

Swift, 21, joins a number of top celebrities who have released fragrances in the last few years, from Beyoncé to Britney Spears to Usher. Swift says the trend is popular because a fragrance has some similarities with music.

"I think that fragrance has a lot to do with shaping people's memories in the way that music does. ...If you hear a song for the first time when you are in love with someone and then you break up and you hear the song again a couple years later, it's gonna make you think right back to that moment when you first heard the song," she said.

"If your boyfriend wears a certain kind of cologne and then you smell it on the street, it's going to immediately make you think of that," she added.

WATCH: Emma Watson's perfume ad

Beauty brand Lancôme has premiered the commercial for its Trésor Midnight Rose perfume, starring the Harry Potter star. Captured through the lens of Mario Testino, a Parisian love story between Watson and male model Cyril Descours is at the center of this ad for the label follow-up to the iconic Trésor fragrance.
"What I love about this story that we put together is that it's almost fate, like chance, that brings the two of them together," the star -- who has previously lent her face to eco fashion brand People Tree and Italian designer Alberta Ferretti - said in a previous teaser video. "You never know what's going to be around the corner. That's what we wanted to get across in the fragrance: that life is magical with little surprises."

Kate Winslet, the star of Lancôme's Trésor ads, was recently replaced by fellow actress Penelope Cruz. The new campaign, also shot by Testino at the Hotel Crillon in Paris, is set to launch later this year.

Has Justin Bieber bubble burst? Vanity Fair might think so

Maybe, just maybe, our long (inter)national nightmare is over. MaybeBieber Fever really has broken:
WWD reports that Vanity Fair's February issue, with the lad on the cover, was the mag's worst-selling issue in 12 years, and the third-worst seller since Graydon Carter took over the mag in 1992 (two years before Justin was born, BTW).
So maybe Justinmania is ending. On the other hand, maybe it's just that 13-yearold girls can't afford the $12.95 or whatever it is the blasted magazine costs these days.
