Daniel Radcliffe's Five Influential Books For Scholastics 'You Are What You Read' Campaign

Scholastic's latest campaign, You Are What You Read, encourages readers to create a list - or "bookprint" - of books that have left an "indelible mark on our lives, shaping who we are and who we've become."

A few notable names have shared their personal bookprint with Scholastic, including Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe. His picks include the classics The Old Man and the Sea and Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas. And, of course, not to be left out: Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone!

You can read Mr. Radcliffe's complete top five list below along with a short explanation for each of his choices:

1. The Old Man and the Sea
"I think the Old Man and Sea was probably the first book by a really classic author that I ever read, and it was then that I realized that things were classics for a reason, and they weren’t all just really, really, really hard work."


2. Germinal
"Germinal by Emile Zola was the first sort of longer and more European novel that I ever read, and I remember reading it in like five days. It’s a long book, and I’m a slow reader, but I just did nothing else."


3. Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas
"It was given to me on my 15th birthday by a friend, and I just thought it was the funniest thing I ever read and kind of amazing and captured the period of time brilliantly."


4. The Master and Margarita
"The Master and Margarita is my favorite, favorite book in the world ever by Mikhail. To me it’s the greatest exploration of the human imagination, and it’s about forgiveness and life and history, and it’s just the most incredible book that I’ve ever read; I read it once and then I read it almost immediately again."


5. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone
"I think it’s fair to say that if we’re talking about the five books that have most influenced my life, I think it would be pretty churlish of me not to say Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone for giving me everything that I have and everything that I will have."

Other famous faces who have shared their bookprint with Scholastic include actress Sarah Jessica Parker, tennis player Serena Williams, and writer/director Richard Curtis.

Miley Cyrus Attacked On Stage At Melbourne Concert!

Breaking News: Just minutes ago teen superstar Miley Cyrus was noticeably shaken up after being tackled by an overexcited fan at her concert in Melbourne, Australia. 

During the final chords of 'The Climb' an unidentified female fan ran across the face of the stage to the far side where Miley was standing, and attempted to tackle her from behind. Miley was knocked forward but managed to keep her footing, while security pounced on her attacker and aggressively took her away. 

Miley was held in the arms of her bodyguard and taken off stage with her back turned, looking pretty freaked out about what had happened. 

After an anxious wait, Miley returned to the stage and joked "I've never been so thankful for my crazy fans." 

"She jumped from the very back row all the way to the front of the stage and tackled me!"

Miley managed to get through the set and despite the actions of one stupid fan... was able to finish off the set in blistering fashion. A true professional. 

Selena Gomez takes on three roles in ‘Monte Carlo’

For Selena Gomez, winning the role of Grace, a Texas teen who gets a dream trip to Paris in “Monte Carlo” was a hat trick, of sorts.

“That’s because Selena is playing three characters,” said Leighton Meester who plays her stepsister, Meg.

“One was Grace. One was Cordelia,” a look-alike nasty English heiress. “And one was Grace being Cordelia.”

“That was really fun, but I was nervous as all get-out,” Gomez said at a press conference at New York’s Regency Hotel.

“I was really nervous because Cordelia is a totally different character, completely evil and she had an accent.”

Gomez, who turns 19 years old July 22, was 17 when she filmed “Monte Carlo” in Budapest, Paris and the tiny principality of the title on the Mediterranean Sea.

For Cordelia’s English accent, Gomez “worked with a dialect coach for two weeks.”

Cordelia’s designer duds were something else.

“My personal clothes are just kind of simple. I like classic things,” said the petite actress/singer. “Grace’s wardrobe was very Texan, very simple but very pretty.

“Cordelia’s was very intense. I mean, she wore really amazing dresses and jackets — and glasses and purses and earrings. It was really fun to create that whole vibe because she wasn’t the kind of heiress that I thought she was going to be. She was very high-fashion.”

While Grace waitressed to save money for her high school graduation trip, Gomez worked on TV sets through her high school years, most notably in the Disney Channel’s “Wizards of Waverly Place,” which began in 2007.

“I went to school up until eighth grade. I was not ever the popular kid,” Gomez recalled.

“I kind of sat in the back and had, like, two friends. My cousin was the captain of the cheerleading team, so nobody picked on me because she was the most popular and she was always very protective of me.”

Does she have any advice for high-schoolers today?

“It’s so hard to not give in to what all the trends are and to what people are saying. But ultimately I’d much rather be the oddball out rather than create something of myself that I’m not proud of.”

Angel Locsin, Taylor Swift top Google PH search

MANILA, Philippines - Actress Angel Locsin and singer Taylor Swift were the most searched personalities in Google among netizens in the Philippines for the period of June 17 to 23, according to the search engine giant.

Locsin emerged as top newsmaker after it was reported that she will do a project with Piolo Pascual, her co-star in the defunct TV series "Lobo". She will also be in "Maalaala Mo Kaya: The Movie."

News about Swift's purchase of a Beverly Hills estate for $3.5 million intrigued netizens. Swift was in the country recently for a soldout concert in Manila.

Meanwhile, Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, also became a newsmaker for the week as her letter to Wimbledon officials reportedly had spelling mistakes.

Other celebrities such as Lady Gaga, "Gossip Girl"'s Blake Lively, Justin Bieber, and Bruno Mars, also landed on the top 10 newsmakers, as did Sarah Geronimo and Dwyane Wade of Miami Heat.
